Makaan.rent (“Makaan”, “we”, “our”) is a rental discovery platform for Ahmedabad, operated by iMobile Designs, an Indian entity based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This policy explains how we handle personal information when you use the site at https://makaan.rent.

If you don't agree with this policy, please don't use the service. By continuing, you accept it.

When you sign in— your mobile phone number (used to send a one-time password) and your name. Your name is shown to property owners when you inquire about a listing, so they know who they're responding to.

When you list a property — the property details you provide (locality, rent, photos, amenities, etc.) and your WhatsApp number so tenants can reach you directly. Photos are uploaded to our object storage and served publicly as part of your listing.

When you inquire about a listing— we record the fact that you sent an inquiry and the listing involved. When you tap “Contact on WhatsApp,” you initiate a WhatsApp chat with the owner — that conversation is between the two of you and lives on WhatsApp.

When you use the site — basic technical data like the pages you visit, your IP address, browser type, and device. We use this to keep the site working and to improve it.

When you pay (e.g. for a featured listing) — payment is processed by Razorpay. We never see or store your card details; we only receive a transaction reference.

• Run the service — sign you in, show you listings, route your inquiries.
• Send one-time passwords (OTPs) and transactional notifications via WhatsApp, SMS, or email.
• Improve the site (analytics, debugging, fixing bugs).
• Comply with applicable Indian law.

We do not use your data for personalized advertising. We do not sell or rent your data to third parties.

We use the WhatsApp Business API (via our messaging partner MSG91) to send you:

• One-time passwords (OTPs) when you sign in
• Transactional notifications about your inquiries, listings, and account

We don't send promotional WhatsApp messages without your explicit opt-in. If we ever do, you can opt out by replying STOP to any message, or by emailing support@imobiledesigns.com.

We do not share your WhatsApp number with third parties for marketing.

Property owners— when you tap “Contact on WhatsApp” on a listing, the owner gets your WhatsApp message. Until you message them, your contact details are not visible to them.

Service providers — we use a small set of vendors to run the service:

• MSG91 — for WhatsApp Business API and SMS OTPs
• Razorpay — for payments (featured listings, etc.)
• iMobile Designs — for hosting, object storage (photos), and database (all within India)
• Google Maps — to show locations on the map (your address is sent to Google only when the map is rendered)
• Sentry — for error tracking (we don't send personal data intentionally)

Each vendor is contractually limited to using your data only for the purpose we specify.

Authorities— if we're legally required to (court order, government request, etc.), we'll comply. We push back on overbroad requests.

• Account — as long as your account is active, plus 90 days after you request deletion.
• Listings— while the listing is active, plus 90 days after it's taken down.
• Inquiry records — 12 months.
• Server logs and analytics — 30 days.

We may retain certain records longer if required by law (e.g. financial records under the Income Tax Act).

• Essential cookies — keep you signed in, remember preferences. Required for the site to work.
• Analytics cookies — aggregate, anonymous stats about page views and popular searches.

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. You can clear cookies in your browser, but essential cookies are needed to sign in.

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA), you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correctdata that's inaccurate
• Erase your data (subject to legal retention)
• Withdraw consent at any time
• File a grievance with our Grievance Officer (see contact below)

To exercise any of these, email support@imobiledesigns.com with the subject line “Data request”. We respond within 7 working days.

• All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
• We use OTP-based authentication — there's no password for you to leak.
• Your data is stored on infrastructure within India.
• We follow industry-standard security practices, but no system is 100% secure.

If you spot a security issue, please email support@imobiledesigns.com — we take responsible disclosures seriously and won't pursue legal action against good-faith researchers.

Makaan.rent is for users aged 18 or older. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has shared data with us, please contact us and we'll delete it.

If we materially change this policy, we'll update the “Last updated” date at the top and notify you (via the site, email, or WhatsApp where appropriate). Continued use of Makaan.rent after a change means you accept the new policy.
